The proposed development would include 600,000 square feet of mixed-use space with 456 new homes including affordable units, in addition to new retail units, offices and cafes, with new parking facilities.
The site is located on the former headquarters of shopping channel QVC and has been designed by architects Scott Brownrigg. Under the proposals the current office block will be demolished and replaced with two new buildings.
The London Borough of Wandsworth recommended approval of the proposals at a planning Committee meeting on 19 January. The proposals will, however, be subject a possible request from the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) for the Secretary of State to “call in” the scheme.
The HSE previously raised concerns about the proximity of the proposed scheme to Battersea’s large gasholder but have reportedly been comforted by plans to decommission the gas holder and a phased approach towards the scheme.
