800 Battersea Power Station Development homes to go on sale next month

The consortium of Malaysian developers behind the plans for Battersea Power Station has announced the launch of phase one of the £8 billion development, with 800 homes to be marketed from January 2013.

Phase one is set to provide a hotel, community and cultural leisure space and a mixture of residential apartments. Every apartment will have an enclosed glazed balcony with a view of either the river or the power station, while phase one will also deliver the first section of the new power station park.

Final planning permission is expected from Wandsworth Council this month. It is understood that Jones Lang LaSalle is likely to be appointed as one of the agents to market the first phase of apartments in an exhibition temporarily housed on the site of Battersea Power Station, with a new riverside marketing suite to be installed later in 2013. Developers S P Setia, Sime Darby and the Employees' Provident Fund of Malaysia will also market the scheme in Asia.

"The response from the UK and around the world since we began accepting registrations of interest in September has been phenomenal," said Rob Tincknell, chief executive of Battersea Power Station Development Company, according to The Evening Standard."I am delighted that it has taken just three months since the purchase of the site to get to where we are today. We are on track to begin construction in the summer and to begin hand over of phase one to the new owners in 2016."

Three years of consultation concluded with Wandsworth Council approving planning permission for the Battersea Power Station project in November 2010. Permission was formally issued in August 2011. The entire site will span 40 acres, providing 8 million square feet of mixed-use accommodation. A total of 2,968 residential units will be built in the scheme, over seven main development phases. Phase one will commence construction in 2013, with completion pencilled in for 2016.
