Affordable house building is falling in London

The development of affordable house building is in decline in London but overall house building has been boosted as a result of the Olympic Games, according to consultancy Drivers Jonas Deloitte (DJD).

London Residential Crane is a survey conducted by DJD which analysed all development schemes of 50 units or more across London.

The survey has revealed that more than 11,000 units are under construction in east London, the area that is to be home to the 2012 Olympic Games.

"The survey paints a fairly positive picture of the residential development landscape in Greater London – nowhere more so than in the east," said Anthony Duggan, head of research at DJD. "There is clear evidence of a significant rise in overall construction levels at a time when economic conditions could have led to developers holding back."
