A joint venture between developers CIT and Green Properties has submitted a planning application for the redevelopment of the Market Towers office building in Nine Elms, south London.

The proposed plans include a mixed-use scheme which includes over 400 new homes, a hotel and a new public square with shops, restaurants and cafés. The application is being considered by Wandsworth Borough Council.

The One Nine Elms site is located within the Vauxhall-Nine Elms-Battersea (VNEB) opportunity area. It is identified as an Opportunity Area in the London Plan as an area having the potential to accommodate a substantial number of new jobs and homes.

It is the most centrally located regeneration opportunity area in London and is situated within the London Borough of Lambeth and the London Borough of Wandsworth on the south bank of the River Thames.

The Mayor of London's planning framework for the area, which includes part of neighbouring Vauxhall, predicts that up to 16,000 new homes and 25,000 new jobs will be created as the site is developed.

"Nine Elms is London's leading development hotspot. The transformation is now underway and a new residential and business district will soon take shape”, said Ravi Govindia, leader of Wandsworth Council.
