The guarantee scheme will enable providers of private rental homes to raise a debt with a Government guarantee where they commit to investing additional new-build rented homes. The guarantees are aimed at giving institutional lenders the assurance they need to invest in the rented sector.
The Government expects the scheme to benefit housing associations, property management companies and developers.
The £200 million fund is earmarked for investments in housing sites to ensure that high-quality rented homes are available to institutional investors quickly. A Government taskforce will bring together developers, management bodies and institutional investors to broker deals and deliver more rented homes.
The schemes are part of the Government's major housing and planning package aimed at increasing house building.
