Capco given first detailed approval for Earls Court proposals

The London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham (LBHF) and the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea (RBKC) have granted detailed consent to developer Capital and Counties (Capco) for the first phase of its major Earls Court regeneration scheme.

Planning committees of both boroughs last week resolved to grant permission to reserved matters applications including the detailed design proposals for 'Earls Court Village'. The proposals form part of the wider Earls Court masterplan which was granted outline planning permission by both councils in November.

The consents cover 6.5 hectares of the masterplan area and include more than 1,200 homes, the first phase of a new High Street and over half of the planned 'Lost River Park'.

LBHF also resolved to grant detailed planning permission for the change of use of the Empress State Building into 340 homes. Under the plans, which will be integrated into the Earls Court masterplan, the existing 30-storey office building will be converted into a residential building which will have a shop on the ground floor.

“We are delighted that our detailed proposals for Earls Court have been approved by RBKC and LBHF," said Capco investment director Gary Yardley in a statement. "The project has real momentum and this decision signals another major milestone in delivering the vision for Earls Court."

"As well as creating a vibrant new part of London, the plans will act as an enormous boost to the economy, creating thousands of new homes and jobs and signalling an £8 billion investment in the local area,” Yardley said.

Capco said it will publish detailed design proposals for the next phases of the Earls Court masterplan in late 2014.
