Surrey council gives green light for Addlestone town centre regeneration scheme

A Surrey council has resolved to grant planning permission for developer Bouygues Developments' 213-home mixed-use scheme for the redevelopment of Addlestone town centre.

The developer submitted plans to Runnymede Borough Council in March for the demolition of existing buildings on a 2.5 hectare site surrounding the Runnymede Civic Office and their replacement with several residential blocks, a hotel building and a shopping mall.

The first phase of the scheme proposes the construction of three residential buildings of between five and six storeys, one of which will include ground floor retail or cafe space, and a four storey building housing a 101-bedroom Premier Inn hotel with ground floor retail units.

The second phase proposes the erection of a shopping mall with retail units, restaurants and cafes on the ground floor and a six-screen cinema above. The mall will open out into a new plaza under the plans and a multi-storey car park with 304 parking spaces will be constructed next to the mall. A further three residential blocks are proposed in phase two, ranging in height from three to six storeys.

A total of 213 one- to three-bedroom flats are proposed under the scheme, with 109 provided in the first phase and the remaining 104 in the second. Affordable housing provision of 53 homes has been recommended by the Council.

The Council resolved to grant full planning permission for the proposals in a meeting of its planning committee in July. Work on site is expected to commence early in 2015.
