Hampshire council approves 500 Whitehill and Bordon homes

The plans for the Louisburg Barracks site include up to 500 homes; 2.94 hectares of employment space including business and industrial space and a training centre; and 3.38 hectares of public open space.

The plans also include the first phase of a new relief road to provide access to the site and ease congestion. The HCA said in a statement it expects to start work on the road by spring next year.

The scheme is part of wider development plans for a sustainable community at Whitehill and Bordon which include up to 3,500 homes and the creation of 5,500 jobs.

“This is another positive step towards bringing forward real and positive change in Whitehill and Bordon, with high quality new homes and jobs that the area needs," said HCA head of area Kevin Bourner.

"We have never underestimated the scale of the task needed to make the most of the opportunity afforded when the MoD leaves the area. The progress we have made here demonstrates that we are taking the right steps towards achieving this ambition. There’s a lot of work that still needs to be done and we remain committed to bringing forward these exciting and transformational plans for the area,” Bourner said.

The HCA is looking for a development partner to draw up the detailed proposals for the scheme. The Agency said it expects to select a partner by the end of the year.
