Developers submit plans for 2,500-home Wiltshire urban extension

Developers Ashton Park Trowbridge and Persimmon Homes have submitted outline plans to Wiltshire Council for the construction of a 2,500-home urban extension to the south east of the town of Trowbridge.

The proposed scheme for the Ashton Park urban extension includes the comprehensive mixed-use development of 156 hectares of land around 2.2 km from Trowbridge town centre.

A total of 2,500 homes have been proposed in a mixture of one- to four-bedroom units, with around 30% affordable housing provision and care home facilities for around 60 elderly people.

Retail, community and social facilities would be delivered in two local centres under the plans, with two primary schools and a site for a secondary school among the facilities proposed. A separate business park with offices, industrial units and storage and distribution units has also been proposed.

The plans also include sports pitches and courts, public open space and a site for an ecological visitors facility.

The development site has been allocated in the adopted Wiltshire Core Strategy for the 15 hectares of employment land and up to 2,600 homes.
