A brief joint press release stated: “Both companies expressed
satisfaction with the terms of the settlement agreement, which are
confidential.”
Broadcom recently sued Intel on allegations that Intel based its
two of its products on confidential Broadcom chips that Intel
obtained from a third party. The lawsuit claimed that Intel’s
products would have been delayed by months or even years had it not
stolen the designs of Broadcom. It also alleged that “smoking-gun
e-mails” and testimony from Intel employees portrayed the world’s
largest chip maker as “attempting to play ‘catch-up’ by any means
necessary.”
The action followed a lawsuit brought by Intel alleging that
Broadcom products infringed five Intel patents covering networking,
chip packaging and video compression.
