The remaining written proceedings between Microsoft and the
Department of Justice will take place over the coming three months.
After today’s anticipated filing by Microsoft, the Department of
Justice will have until 12th January 2001 to respond. The filings
will be considered by a full panel of judges in the Appeals
Court.
Microsoft will challenge the finding that it illegally
maintained a monopoly in PC operating systems and that it attempted
to monopolise the internet browser market. The company hopes to
show that its acts did not exclude competition and that its
distribution of Internet Explorer software was not contrary to
competition laws.
