50 anonymous individuals sued for internet defamation

OUT-LAW News, 07/12/2000

An entertainment technology company has announced that it is filing a defamation claim in a California Superior Court against 50 anonymous individuals who allegedly posted inaccurate and damaging information on an on-line financial message board.

New Visual Entertainment Inc. announced today that it is bringing the case in San Diego following a fall in its stock market value. It hopes that a court order can be issued to relevant ISPs to help identify and then sue those responsible for posting what it describes as abusive, inaccurate and defamatory messages.

Ray Willenberg, Jr., CEO of New Visual, stated, “New Visual and its shareholders have been harmed by these defamatory and irresponsible messages. We intend to take all necessary steps, including this legal action, to protect the Company and recover the Company's damages.“
