OUT-LAW News, 02/04/2001

Microsoft, Adobe Systems and Corel are among industry leaders pushing for a new crackdown on software piracy worldwide according to reports in FT.com and WSJ.com. Microsoft has in one year helped police seize $2 billion-worth of counterfeit products.

Microsoft is working with the US Customs Service to exchange information on piracy around the world, helping the company to police its copyrights. The company has taken legal action against around 47,000 postings on the internet in more than 20 countries offering its products in the last six months alone.

In the past year, police working with Microsoft seized five million units of pirated Microsoft software, valued at almost $2 billion.
