Bloomberg loses “sucks” domain name case

OUT-LAW News, 21/06/2001

Dan Parisi, a party in many high profile cybersquatting battles, has won the right to keep the domain name MichaelBloombergSucks.com before a US dispute resolution panel. The US-based financial company Bloomberg, headed by Michael Bloomberg, failed to show that Parisi was using the name in bad faith. The domain name linked to a free speech site, sucks.com.

Mr Parisis domain name paranoia. So, customers can now visit sites such as the imaginatively named VerizonEatsPoop.com to air their grievances.

Salmon adds:

"If someone puts defamatory messages on a web site then there are likely grounds for legal action. But a site just airing customer grievances may not be worth the hassle, expense and embarrassment of legal action. It might only encourage the owner."
