Microsoft antitrust case delayed

OUT-LAW News, 18/09/2001

Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly, who is overseeing the US antitrust trial against Microsoft, has extended the deadline for joint submissions in the case, originally set for last Friday due to the terrorist attacks in the country. Microsoft is also acting to address concerns expressed after the attack about its Flight Simulator program.

Following last Tuesday’s events, the submissions in the antitrust case were postponed until today. However, that deadline has now been further extended until Thursday, with a hearing to discuss the submissions, originally scheduled for this Friday, now postponed until 28th September.

Microsoft has also said that it will offer a software patch for use with current versions of its Flight Simulator software. The patch, available free from next week, will allow users of the simulator to block out images of the New York skyline affected by last weeks terrorist attacks. Concerns were expressed last week that the simulator could have helped terrorists in preparing for their attacks. The company has also postponed the October release of its Flight Simulator 2002 software which had included images of New York City.
