At the request of the French Prime Minister, Le Forum des droits
sur L’internet (The Forum for Rights on the Internet) is setting up
a committee to consider the circumstances in which the existence of
a hyperlink can attack the intellectual property rights on the
internet and public order generally, according to an article by
French site transfert.net.
There is current ambiguity as to the law which applies to
hyperlinks, not just in France. Some legal observers suggest that
it is against French law to link to MP3 files that infringe
copyrights, but this is uncertain. A Danish court earlier this year
ruled that linking to MP3 files is illegal.
