Kodak claims patents over Java

OUT-LAW News, 13/02/2002

Kodak has sued Sun Microsystems in the US District Court for the Western District of New York, alleging patent infringement in respect of Java, the platform-independent programming language developed by Sun.

In a statement, Sun said:

“Based on discussions over many months with Kodak, Sun believes that this suit is without merit, and, accordingly, will defend itself vigorously and is confident that it will prevail.”

Sun created Java in 1995 although it derives little direct revenue from either it or its related technologies.
