Network Associates sells PGP rights

OUT-LAW News, 20/08/2002

US-based network security provider Network Associates yesterday announced that it has sold the commercial rights to the PGP desktop and wireless encryption product lines. PGP (or Pretty Good Privacy) is the most widely used software for encrypting e-mail messages.

The terms of the deal were not disclosed. According to Network Associates, PGP Corporation, a new data storage and message security company, bought PGPmail, PGPfile, PGPdisc, PGPwireless, PGPadmin for Windows, PGPkeyserver encryption software products, and also PGP Corporate Desktop for Macintosh.

Network Associates retained some products developed with PGPsdk, including MC Afee E-Business Server, Mc Afee Desktop Firewall and Mc Afee VPN Client.

Network Associates said that it will continue to support PGP products until November 2002, at which time PGP Corporation will assume all support responsibilities and will release new PGP products for Windows and Mac OS-based computers.
