A Greek court has declared unconstitutional a law that bans
electronic games. Two separate cases against three people were
dismissed and, according to commentators, the ruling could lead to
the repeal of the bizarre law.
The court noted that the law was originally conceived to address
gambling, but was broadened to ban all electronic games from public
and private places, including those running on computers, consoles
and mobile phones.
The three people charged under Greek Law Number 3037 were
“involved in or running internet cafés,” according to reports.
Officers who searched the cafés did not report any internet
gambling – only on-line chess and Counter-Strike.
