How much time do your staff spend on the internet?

OUT-LAW News, 21/10/2002

Only 58% of UK employers are currently aware of how much time their employees spend on the internet, despite recent incidents of employees using the internet inappropriately at work, according to new research carried out by UK ISP Star Internet.

The research found, however, that one in every three employers "actively encourage" their staff to use the internet for leisure within the office. This, according to Star Internet, indicates that working attitudes towards the web are "more lenient" than previously thought.

Jos White, Founder and Marketing Director at Star Internet, said:

"E-mail is obviously fundamental to business continuity and companies need to ensure its resiliency and efficacy. A coherent e-mail usage policy should let employees know what is and is not acceptable as well as addressing the treatment of e-mail viruses, spam and e-mail porn so that productivity and corporate reputation is not jeopardised."
