Rival PDA makers Handspring and Research in Motion (RIM) have
settled a patent dispute filed by RIM, maker of the BlackBerry PDA,
earlier this year, with Handspring agreeing to pay a licence
fee.
In a lawsuit filed in September, RIM alleged that certain devices in Handspring's Treo product line infringed a patent associated with "unique keyboard features" used in RIM's BlackBerry handhelds.
The two companies said in a joint statement issued yesterday that "RIM has agreed to dismiss its pending litigation against Handspring following the execution of a definitive agreement."
Specific terms of the royalty-bearing licence were not disclosed.
