E-mail is not the best way to conduct intimate correspondence,
as London-based careers adviser Sharon Dyson discovered to her cost
this week when she sent an explicit e-mail to her boyfriend, and
inadvertently to 30 of his colleagues.
According to reports, Dyson was responding to an e-mail sent to
her and thirty others by boyfriend Alex Hewson, when she
accidentally clicked the 'Reply to all' button.
While the e-mail began innocently enough, asking Alex to pick
her up from the airport on her return from a week's work in
Australia. She then wrote: "I have to write a sucky 'thank you'
email to clients now, w*nk w*nk" – and went on to discuss phone
sex. The unintended recipients could not resist forwarding the
e-mail.
It has now circulated the globe, being read by millions of
e-mail users – including Dyson's employers, Hobsons. Helen Symonds,
communications manager at the firm of career advisers, told
reporters: "We have staff procedures in place to deal with any
incidents of this nature."
She added: "We want to make clear that all e-mails made by staff
members reflect their own personal views and don't reflect the
views of the company."
