A 24-year-old man has been arrested by police in Estonia for
allegedly emptying millions of euros from hundreds of on-line bank
accounts across Europe, according to a report by the Sydney Morning
Herald.
According to the newspaper, victims had clicked a link in an
e-mail that promised job offers. They were directed to a page that
downloaded Trojan horse software to their computers which stole and
transmitted their security details to the attacker.
If convicted, the maximum penalty for the unnamed individual
would be up to five years in prison.
Meanwhile, Madrid-based Panda Software has announced that March
was "the month of the Trojan horses". Its monthly Top 10 of viruses
suggests that of the 10 malicious code variants detected last
month, seven were Trojan horses. Its ActiveScan product disinfected
a Trojan in 11% of all computers scanned in March.
