Case study: IP2IPO Group plc

Intellectual property, employment, commercial and corporate advice

Pinsent Masons has worked closely with IP2IPO Group plc, formerly a subsidiary of The Evolution Group plc, since 1999. IP2IPO's business is to generate commercial value from intellectual property created by its university partners. IP2IPO identifies commercialisation opportunities in the universities' intellectual property and provides investment and technology transfer expertise to bring such opportunities to commercial fruition.

The team at Pinsent Masons has advised IP2IPO on the agreements that it has entered into with each university and also advised IP2IPO on its float on the Alternative Investment Market (AIM) in October 2003.

In January 2005, the corporate team at Pinsent Masons advised IP2IPO Group on the £16.1 million strategic acquisition of Techran Group Limited – a company set up to commercialise university intellectual property. This acquisition extends IP2IPO's relationship with some of the country's leading research establishments.

John Davies, Chief Financial Officer, IP2IPO Group plc says of his experiences of working with Pinsent Masons:

"I have worked with Pinsent Masons since 1999 and since that time they have consistently provided a responsive service of the very highest quality across a range of legal areas – IP, employment, commercial and corporate. Both partners and associates are easily distinguishable from the herd by the flexible, 'right-first time' approach that the firm has adopted and which has become its hallmark."
