Money to Burn in HELL.COM?
Space Cadet, 05/05/2000
Are you thinking of starting up an e-business and still trying
to find an available dot.com domain name? It's becoming difficult
to find unclaimed dot.com names which are pronounceable. If you've
had this problem, you might be relieved to hear that HELL.COM is up
for sale (see HITDOMAINS.COM for your buyer's package). The price
is, apparently, a cool £8 million.
The sales pitch describes it as "perhaps the most recognised and
powerful brand in the world." According to the sales blurb for
HELL.COM, the name currently gets 1 million hits per month from
curious web surfers. That's a lot of curiosity.
The name is, according to the pitch, uniquely positioned to
represent the ultimate search engine, free email portal, gaming,
music, sports, gambling, e-commerce or entertainment site.
Hmmm...
E-addict
"Hello. My name is Space Cadet. Am I an addict?" Welcome to the
virtual clinic of the Centre for On-line Addiction. For three
years, internet addiction has been treated by Dr. Kimberly Young
and her colleagues, operating out of Pennsylvania, USA. Take the
test at the Centre's site, netaddiction.com, and see if you
can handle your habit. How often do you fantasise about being
on-line? How often do you block out disturbing thoughts about your
life with soothing thoughts of the internet?
And now, with a view to improving the Centre's range of customer
services, a new couples' counselling program has been introduced.
Due to the "overwhelming" number of marital problems tracked in the
Centre, the good doctor has initiated a new healthcare program
specifically designed for couples.
"Cyberaffairs and cybersexual addiction severely impact marital
stability and can even result in separation and divorce," says Dr.
Young. What better way to address the addiction than logging-on to
her web site. Dr. Young is careful to point out that this is not
the same as a meeting of alcoholics anonymous at the local boozer:
"Internet addiction recovery focuses on moderation and control
similar to treating eating disorders." Perhaps it's more like
holding a meeting of Weight Watchers at the local burger bar.
