OUT-LAW.COM scoops top website award

Press release: 10/10/2000

Leading online legal advice service out-law.com has been rated the Best Law Firm Website of the Year.

The site, launched in May this year by leading international IT and new media law firm Masons, scooped top honours in the website category in the respected industry publication: Insider’s Guide to E-commerce and Digital Media. Out-law.com is described as a “very elegant and modern-looking site with excellent content to boot”.

Masons partner Jon Fell said:

“We’re absolutely delighted at this accolade. We’ve invested a great deal of time, money and effort to ensure out-law takes legal websites to a new level, and receiving this award confirms we were right to throw our resources behind the project.

“The site has already proven invaluable to many new economy firms and a host of journalists already refer to it as a source for e-commerce news from a legal perspective.

“We are already looking forward to rolling out ‘phase two’ of out-law in January, with developments in the level of advice available, and the selling of a range of legal services online.”

Such has been the success of out-law.com, the firm estimates that the number of registered users will grow from three thousand in year one to ten thousand in year two.

John Salmon commented:

“No one else comes close to providing the level of information we do and we’ve made sure of this by having a qualified lawyer as the site’s full-time online editor. “Because e-commerce is such a fast-moving sector companies want instant online access to quality advice and expertise where and when they need it.”

The out-law.com concept is also proving a big hit with new economy firms in the Far East since its launch there in July. Masons’ strong reputation for IT advice and work in e-commerce and new media has led to the firm acting for a number of organisations in Hong Kong, from start-ups to large corporates and financial institutions, advising on the opportunities and potential legal pitfalls of doing business in the new economy.
