Struan Robertson's biography
Struan is a technology lawyer with Pinsent Masons and Editor of
OUT-LAW.
Although he started his career as a corporate lawyer, Struan has
always been enthusiastic about IT. He tried to program his Spectrum
in the early '80s, built his first website in 1996, then struggled
through a Java evening class in 1999. By his own admission, none of
these coding endeavours displayed any talent.
He joined Pinsent Masons in March 2000 to work full-time on
OUT-LAW.COM and has been editor since its launch in May of that
year. A Legal Director with the firm, Struan also edits
OUT-LAW's sister site, AboutCookies.org.
Struan advises OUT-LAW users and often speaks at seminars and
conferences and to the press on issues such as:
- Copyright, trade marks and patents
- Data protection & security
- Domain names
- E-commerce
- Email marketing
- ISPs and hosting issues
- Web accessibility
In 2004, Struan was named Legal Services Champion at In Brief
Magazine’s e-Loties awards. He is a member of the BSI
Committee responsible for writing the first British Standard on web
accessibility, BS 8878 and a member of the Usability
Professionals Association.
In the past Struan has written a weekly
column for Times Online and a column for the British Computer
Society’s Information Security Now quarterly journal. He
continues to write a monthly Q&A for .Net magazine and can be found
