Struan Robertson's biography
Struan is a technology lawyer with Pinsent Masons and Editor of
OUT-LAW.
Although he started his career as a corporate lawyer, Struan has
always been enthusiastic about IT. He tried to program his Spectrum
in the early '80s, built his first website in 1996, then struggled
through a Java evening class in 1999. By his own admission, none of
these coding endeavours displayed any talent.
He joined Pinsent Masons in March 2000 to work full-time on
OUT-LAW.COM and has been editor since its launch in May of that
year. A Senior Associate with the firm, Struan also edits
OUT-LAW Magazine and OUT-LAW's sister
site, AboutCookies.org.
Struan advises OUT-LAW users and often speaks at seminars and
conferences on issues such as:
- Copyright, trade marks and patents
- Data protection
- Domain names
- E-commerce
- Email marketing
- ISPs and hosting issues
- IT security
- Software licensing
- Web accessibility
In 2004, Struan was named Legal Services Champion at In Brief
Magazine’s e-Loties awards. A member of the Usability Professionals
Association and the fledgling Equal Internet, Struan
writes a weekly
column for Times Online, a column for the British Computer
Society’s Information Security Now quarterly journal and a
monthly Q&A for .Net
magazine.
