Kim Walker's biography
Kim is a partner in the Outsourcing, Technology and Commercial
Group. He specialises in contractual and commercial work involving
intellectual property, principally as it affects the technology,
media and communications industries. During his 25 year career he
has advised on the protection and exploitation of content, brands
and all other forms of intellectual property and has been regularly
involved in the IP and technology aspects of joint ventures,
mergers, acquisitions, flotations and other corporate
transactions.
His commercial and IP experience includes distribution, agency
and supply agreements, franchising, the acquisition and
exploitation of rights, the transfer of technology and ecommerce
issues.
Kim's clients include software and other IT businesses, online
and print publishers, retailers, marketing services agencies and
leisure companies.
Key relevant experience includes:
- Acting for a UK group on the roll out of a retail chain of
clothing stores (and associated transactional website) under a
franchised brand.
- Acting for the UK's largest UK news and documentary film
archive on its acquisition of a number of household name historic
archives.
- Advising a national retail chain on its joint venture with a
broadcaster to exploit their DVD and video catalogues.
- Acting for a listed UK leisure group on the outsourcing of its
data services, desktop and primary IT services to a US corporation
and on its contracts for the design, build and implementation of a
group-wide ERP system.
- Acting for a children's entertainment and merchandising company
on the acquisition of the rights to a number of well known
children's characters.
Kim is the author of the Editorial Contracts Handbook published
by the Periodical Publishers Association and presents seminars on
IP and commercial law matters for the TMT sector.
