WIPO's logo for WIPDWorld Intellectual Property Day 2008

26th April 2008

World Intellectual Property Day (WIPD) exists to raise awareness of intellectual property worldwide. It was organised in 2001 by the Geneva-based World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO).

This year the our IP team at Pinsent Masons ran a photography competition for pupils at two London schools as an event to mark World Intellectual Property Day 2008.

The theme of WIPD 2008 was innovation. Pinsent Masons ran the competition for pupils in Year 10 (mostly aged 14 or 15) at Mount Carmel RC Technology College for Girls and Elizabeth Garret Anderson School, both located in Islington, not too far from our own offices in Clerkenwell.

There were more than 150 entries. The winner was Amal Hussain of Elizabeth Garret Anderson School. Amal received a digital camera.

What did we do last time?

World Intellectual Property Day, 26 AprilIn 2007 we had an interview with Andrew Gowers, author of the Government-commissioned review of IP, and we gave free advice to anyone who wanted to meet an IP expert. We also offered a WIPD kit for IP specialists which is still free to use. And there was another WIPD for bloggers and others who wanted to promote the day.
