World Intellectual Property Day 2008
26th April 2008
World Intellectual Property Day (WIPD) exists to raise awareness
of intellectual property worldwide. It was organised in 2001 by the
Geneva-based World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO).
This year the our IP team at
Pinsent Masons has been running a photography
competition for pupils at two London schools as an event
to mark World Intellectual Property Day 2008.
The theme of this year's WIPD is innovation. Pinsent Masons has
run the competition for pupils in Year 10 (mostly aged 14 or 15) at
Mount Carmel RC Technology College for Girls and Elizabeth Garret
Anderson School, both located in Islington, not too far from our
own offices in Clerkenwell.
There have been more than 150 entries to date. The winners will
be announced on 9th May and each will receive a digital camera. Two
sample entries are displayed below.

What did we do last time?
In 2007 we had an
interview with Andrew Gowers, author of
the Government-commissioned review of IP, and we gave free
advice to anyone who wanted to meet an IP expert. We also offered a
WIPD kit for IP specialists which
is still free to use. And there was another WIPD for bloggers and others who wanted to promote
the day.
