The Team
The Insurance & Reinsurance Group is headed by Tim Burton
and comprises 24 lawyers including 7 partners.
The Group is a successful and expanding one, with a strong team
ethos. It counts many of the UK's top long-term and general
insurers amongst its clients. And with insurance as one of the
Firm's key areas, it has a good profile within the Firm.
As part of the Group's expansion it is now looking to recruit a
non-contentious lawyer with a focus on long-term assurance, who has
from 5 years' post qualification experience.
The candidate required
The lawyer appointed to this position will be required to work
without significant supervision. As a guide, we anticipate
that they will have from 5 years' PQE. We would consider an
appointment at partner level for the right candidate. Their
responsibilities will include:
- Drafting/advising on policy wordings and other product
documentation for life assurance products
- Advising on the application of the Financial Services and
Markets Act 2000, the secondary legislation made thereunder and the
rules of the Financial Services Authority to the business of
insurers and intermediaries involved in the offer and sale of life
assurance products. This will include the Regulated Activities
Order, the Conduct of Business Rules (COB), the Client Assets
Sourcebook (CASS) and the forthcoming new rules relating to the
operation of SIPPs
- Reviewing financial promotions for life assurance products
- Drafting and negotiating distribution agreements for the sale
of life assurance and other investment products for insurer and
intermediary clients
- Giving seminars internally to Pinsent Masons staff and to
external client audiences on life assurance regulatory and other
legal issues
- Assisting in the development of the firm's knowhow in relation
to life assurance
- Participating in and developing business development
initiatives in their practice area, working with other members of
the insurance team. Participating in formal tenders and informal
bids for work in their practice area.
- Working closely with our Pensions team in relation to long-term
insurance pension products
The successful candidate will be expected to travel between all
our national offices visiting both clients and colleagues as
necessary.
