Employers liable for homophobic abuse in the workplace Employers are liable for the effects that homophobic abuse masquerading as banter has on workers according to an Employment Tribunal ruling. Bomb suspect sues Microsoft over undeleted records A man awaiting trial for selling illegally modified firearms and for possessing bomb making equipment is suing Microsoft because its software did not delete his private browsing history. 06/03/2007 http://www.out-law.com/page-7838 3. Data sharing powers questioned in Lords Better safeguards are needed in new Government data sharing proposals according to the Conservative spokesperson on home affairs in the House of Lords. Baroness Anelay of St Johns has tabled a series of amendments to a new Government Bill. 06/03/2007 http://www.out-law.com/page-7835 4. English court cannot hear MP3 patent case An attempt by flash memory card maker SanDisk to take on a group of MP3-related patent holders has failed in an English court. The High Court said that all of SanDisk's claims fell outside of the court's jurisdiction of England and Wales. 06/03/2007 http://www.out-law.com/page-7836 5. Patent Office will become UK Intellectual Property Office The Patent Office will change its name to the UK Intellectual Property Office on 2nd April. The change, recommended in the Gowers Review of Intellectual Property, is designed to reflect the wider role the Office will take in the future. 05/03/2007 http://www.out-law.com/page-7828 6. Sheriff awards damages of £750 for single spam email An individual has won a spam case in the UK for just the second time. Gordon Dick has won a damages award of £750 plus expenses against Transcom Internet Services after suing the ISP for sending him a single email.
