The European Commission wants to create a new, pan-European contract law that
would run in parallel to national laws and would be aimed at increasing cross border trade
within the EU. It has also vowed to press ahead with controversial consumer law plans.

country's privacy code, handing them a six month suspended prison sentence over a video hosted on
the site which shows an autistic child being bullied.

said. It has stopped short of recommending new privacy laws.

Three companies have lodged formal claims with the European Commission that
Google is acting anti-competitively. Two of the complaints relate to the way that it ranks web
pages. The Commission has asked Google to explain its actions.

Parliament later this year on the degree to which UK citizens are put under surveillance.
