Advertisers and broadcasters must make sure that viewing of their adverts is as
controlled on video-on-demand (VOD) services as it is when traditionally
broadcast, advertising regulator the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) has
said.

Nine microchip producers have paid fines totalling €331 million to the European
Commission in the first settlement under a new EU fast-track scheme to deal with
cartels. A tenth company paid no fines because it blew the whistle on the
illegal activity.

The European Court of Human Rights has rejected a claim that the UK's Regulation
of Investigatory Powers Act (RIPA) violates the human right to a private life.
The UK's rules and safeguards on covert surveillance are proportionate, said the
court.

New 'model clauses' governing the exporting of personal data outside of the
European Economic Area (EEA) have come into force. The new documents update one
of the ways in which data can leave the EEA legally.
