Takeover panel protects target companies with rule changes
Long term investors' interests are too easily damaged by hostile takeovers, the
Takeover Panel has said. It will amend the City's rules on takeovers of publicly
traded companies to protect the existing shareholders of target companies.

New late payments rules passed by European Parliament
Public authorities must pay their bills within 30 days and companies within 60
days, according to a new European Union Directive that has been approved by the
European Parliament.

Equality Act Codes of Practice published
The Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) has published the statutory
guidance that will help employers, lawyers and courts to interpret the Equality
Act. Three Codes of Practice were laid before Parliament last week.

OPINION: Every time we, or anyone else, report on opinions published by an

Legal privilege should not extend to accountants, rules Court of Appeal
The right to keep correspondence and documents relating to legal advice secret
does not exist when the person giving the advice is an accountant, the Court of
Appeal has ruled.

Attorney General hints at review of responsibility for online prejudicial comments
The Attorney General has said that operators of websites should be responsible
for comments made by visitors to their sites that prejudice trials. Dominic
Grieve said that he wants "further discussions" on site owners' liability.
