Kier wins £52m deal to build 400 Birmingham homes

Affordable homes specialist Kier Partnership Homes has been chosen to bring forward the latest phase of development at Egghill in Birmingham.

Kier will build 400 new homes and a neighbourhood park on Tessall Lane in Northfield with a development value of about £52 million.

Kier is currently building the first phase of the "Balaam Wood" development, which includes 58 new homes. The third and final phase is expected to include 122 houses and flats for Birmingham Municipal Housing Trust (BMHT) and a further 278 houses for outright sale.

“We are delighted to have been chosen by BMHT to continue our association with them on the latest phase of development planned for Egghill," said Chris King, managing director of Kier Partnership Homes. "We intend to build on the excellent service and value for money that our properties within the first phase of development at Tessall Lane represent.”

Balaam Wood, the first phase developed by Kier at Egghill in association with BMHT and the Homes and Communities Agency, is a showcase of exceptional design, space standards and energy efficiency and now forms an integral part of the overall regeneration of the Egghill area.

The development at Egghill is BMHT’s first to provide new homes for both private sale and social rent side by side, providing a mixed tenure environment with an aim of providing greater prospects for sustainable regeneration in the long term, the developer said.

Kier has also been appointed on a £32 million maintenance framework and £300,000 per year contract for social enterprise Fusion21, to fit all new central heating systems, kitchens, bathrooms, windows and doors to all homes covered within the framework.
