Developer Lend Lease has submitted plans to Hounslow Council for the regeneration of a vacant office block and shopping frontage in Chiswick town centre in west London into a 137-home residential-led development.22 Aug 2014
The proposals include the refurbishment and recladding of a vacant 11-storey office block on Chiswick High Road, known as Empire House, to provide 66 residential units. A further 71 homes are planned in the wider scheme, including a new seven to eight storey apartment building and four red-brick terraced townhouses on Essex Place. According to the planning statement submitted with the plans, affordable housing provision will be subject to further discussions with Hounslow Council.
Existing ground floor retail provision along Chiswick High Road is proposed to be enhanced under the scheme, with new shop fronts to be provided. A total of 8,750 square feet of retail floorspace will be provided across the site.
Communal roof gardens are planned for Empire House and the new apartment building on Essex Place and improvements to the public realm are proposed with improved access across the site, extensive tree planting and landscaping.
A combined heat and power unit will serve the development from a new energy centre. Ten private parking spaces and 239 cycle spaces are also included in the plans.
Completion is expected in 2016, subject to planning approval.
