The Preston New Road Action Group (PNRAG) earlier this year saw a judicial review challenge it raised against an October 2016 decision taken by communities secretary Sajid Javid dismissed. Javid granted approval to energy firm Cuadrilla to undertake shale gas fracking projects in the area, overturning an earlier decision of the local planning authority in the process.
The PNRAG has now been given permission to appeal the High Court's ruling before the Court of Appeal. The PNRAG confirmed that the dates for the appeal to be heard have not yet been set.
Fracking is a process which involves pumping water at high pressure into rock to create narrow fractures through which trapped natural gas can flow out and be captured.
