The security of the UK's telecoms infrastructure is being reviewed by the UK government.

The terms of reference for the telecoms supply chain review (2-page / 54KB PDF) were published by the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) last week.

The review is focused on telecoms 'critical national infrastructure' that supports both fixed-line and mobile public telecoms networks and services. It will be informed by a mix of economic and technical analysis, sector intelligence and international engagement, DCMS said.

"As critical national infrastructure (CNI), it is important that the government is reassured of the supply arrangements underpinning telecoms and that an effective framework is in place to ensure: the security and resilience of UK telecoms networks and services; and the quality, availability and long-term cost of telecoms equipment," DCMS said.

"The review will consider both market incentives and security risks, likely future scenarios, and appropriate regulatory and policy levers," it said.

The government said it is aiming to complete its review in spring 2019.
